If you are heading into your doctors office and have an undiagnosed malady affecting your life, chances are he will order you a long list of tests, to find just what is bothering you. Your initial reaction might be one of surprise, and being glad that your doctor is truly trying to find out what is wrong with you, but if you dont have insurance, or in the insurance you have requires you to pay a co-pay for everyone of those tests, you might be whistling a different tune. Why do doctors order so many tests?
Well, some people believe that doctors get paid by the test. This isnt true at all. Doctors get paid by the hour, or by the patient. Not by the test. The tests are there for two reasons. The first reason is to protect you. The doctors need to run every test they can think of in order to protect you from a future malady, or to make sure that they dont misdiagnose you. They also need to protect themselves.
Thats right doctors everywhere order tons of tests that arent necessary to cover their own behinds. The do this to protect themselves, and their wallets from the threat of a malpractice suit. Evidently patients will sue doctors for pretty much everything, and insurance companies and lawyers are making a profit off of encouraging this behavior.
Even illegal aliens who go into an emergency room, and receive free health care can sue the doctor working on them, which means the doctor has to cover their behinds by offering every possible test to this person, and in the process incurring thousands of dollars in bills that the person wont pay, and which will fall back on the hospital.
Doctors have to have malpractice insurance to protect themselves from their patients. They give a hundred tests in order to protect themselves from us, not to protect us from them. They are just trying to make sure that they can keep themselves out of court and their insurance premiums as low as they can be. It is sick to think about, however.
Because of insurance companies and lawyers getting a huge profit from patients suing doctors our doctors are no longer working for us. They are working for themselves, and worrying more about protecting themselves than they are about us. They are putting us through the stress and worry of having time consuming tests that probably have nothing to do with why we are there.
